Paramedics rescue injured hiker in Palm Desert

An injured hiker was airlifted to a hospital Sunday from a trail in Palm Desert by Riverside County Fire Department paramedics.

The rescue was at about 3:05 p.m. in the 47000 block of Portola Avenue in the Living Desert Reserve, fire department spokeswoman April Newman said.

The injured hiker contacted the fire department about 1:25 p.m.

The patient was located by paramedics about a mile and a half from the starting point of the trail in difficult terrain and then loaded onto a helicopter, Newman said.

The patient was flown to a hospital with moderate injuries.

The extent of the injuries or the identity of the victim have not been revealed.
