Two people hospitalized after structure fire in Desert Hot Springs

Two people were injured and nine people were displaced Saturday when an early morning fire ripped through a home in Desert Hot Springs.

The fire was reported at 4:23 a.m. in the 16000 block of Via Vista, said Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department. The fire destroyed one home and damaged another before firefighters
were able to contain the blaze, she said.

More than 25 firefighters battled the fire at the single-family home, officials said.

Two people were hospitalized with minor injuries, and the American Red Cross was called to assist the nine people who were displaced by the fire. Flames created $315,000 in damage, Cabral said.

There has been no word yet on what caused the fire.
