Cathedral City Police increase enforcement during Mongols meeting

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (KESQ) — Law enforcement agencies increased patrols and enforcement efforts this weekend as the Mongols motorcycle organization holds its annual meeting in Cathedral City.

The Mongols are an international outlaw motorcycle organization that typically holds its annual meeting in Palm Springs. This year, the group is gathering in Cathedral City.

In response, the Cathedral City Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are increasing enforcement activity in the area throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, officers made 15 arrests involving narcotics violations, possession of stolen property, driving with a suspended license and outstanding warrants.

Police also issued 42 citations and had five vehicles stored or impounded.

Officials say the increased presence is intended to help keep the weekend safe and allow officers to respond quickly if needed.

Police emphasized that residents should not panic, but they should expect to see more law enforcement activity in the area.

Officials also reminded the public that 911 is available for emergencies or if someone witnesses a crime.
