Temperatures continue to trend up through Thursday
Tuesday, temperatures clocked in close to seasonal. Palm Springs reached a high of 99° and the average this time of year is 100°. Near average temperatures will be behind us for a few days as a ridge of high pressure continues to strengthen over California.
This ridge of high pressure will remain in control, bringing warmer than normal temperatures through Thursday. Areas along the coast will really feel the heat with temperatures soaring above seasonal average. The coastal areas are again looking at a Heat Advisory today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for temperatures up to 100°. Here in the desert, we are no stranger to the triple digits. Our temperatures will reach past 105°.
Conditions are also dry with winds remaining light. This dry air and lighter wind will contribute to temperatures warming up quickly this afternoon. The overnight hours have been mild so temperatures will already have a head start in warming more than yesterday.
Thursday will be the warmest day of the week. Then, by Friday, a trough of low pressure moves across California. This will bring some cooling for Friday and more cooling for Saturday. Breezy winds will also return for that time frame as onshore winds push farther inland.
