College of the Desert cancelling some nursing classes for fall semester
An email that was sent out this week to nursing students notifying them that College of the Desert will not be offering advanced clinical classes: N2, N3, N4 this fall semester.
A spokesperson for the college tells us during the Spring, they were able to make some sort of exemptions through the help of the board of registered nursing so that students could finish up the semester but now things have changed.
The school sent us this statement that reads in part.
"We will make every effort possible to offer these courses in Spring 2021, and are working with our students to identify alternative course offerings and providing them with emergency grant funding to keep them on track with their studies."
According the college, They are offering additional online courses that support nursing, like a Nursing Ethics and Dosing Calculations as examples. They are offering faculty-led workshops to meet virtually with students to discuss case studies or other clinical topics.
We also reached out to CSUSB Palm Desert campus to see if their nursing program has be impacted a spokesperson tells us they are track.
The board of registered nursing told us they are working with the Department of Consumer Affairs, they have put waivers in place to give students options and opportunities to meet their educational needs.
Due to the recent spike in coronavirus cases, the Board of Registered Nursing is notifying nursing students who meet CDC guidelines for healthcare workers can work as supplemental staff.
