Local nonprofit plans to close permanently

For over a decade, Christopher’s Clubhouse provided the Coachella Valley with key resources to help keep the community safe. But today, their mission has sadly come to an end, as the nonprofit has announced that it will be closing its doors permanently.

“If physically I could do this forever and be up and down off the floor, and be with those kids I would do it,” said Mika Moulton, the founder and director of Christopher’s Clubhouse.

Moulton says the organization is closing due to financial and personal health reasons. Christopher’s Clubhouse was founded by Cameron and Mika Moulton after Mika’s son, Christopher, was abducted and murdered in 1995.

“It became about not wanting to see or hear another story like Chris’s,” says Cameron. “And not having more families join the club that you don’t want to be invited to.”

The organization provides safety and self-defense classes for the Coachella Valley, classes which may still be readily available after Christopher’s Clubhouse shuts its doors.

The Moultons have reached out to other valley organizations, including the Y-M-C-A of the Desert, to pick up the classes once Christopher’s Clubhouse closes. The books and stuffed animals from their building will be donated to the new Loma Linda’s Children’s clinic in Indio.

The Moultons say that they will fulfill their remaining contracts and complete their contracts before closing their doors completely.
