Arrest Made After Assault with Deadly Weapon in Palm Springs

At 12:04 p.m. Palm Springs Dispatch Received at 911 call regarding an assault that occurred in the 400 block of West Dominguez Road. Patrol Officers arrived and learned that 35 year old James Hardwick of Palm Springs, used a blunt weapon to strike a victim in the head. The victim suffered a moderate head injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers surrounded Hardwick’s residence as he barricaded himself inside the home. Officers say they received information that Hardwick would possibly harm himself with explosives, and was refusing to exit. At that time, The Desert Regional SWAT Team responded along with Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Device Team. Crisis negotiators were able to make phone contact with Hardwick and he agreed to surrender.

The Hazardous Device Team swept the residence and determined it is safe. Hardwick was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and for Criminal Threats.
