DHS officer placed on administrative leave pending Internal Affairs investigation

A Desert Hot Springs police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an Internal Affairs investigation into allegations of “inappropriate conduct with a citizen,” DHSPD confirmed.

According to a news release by DHSPD, the department first learned about the allegation on the officer’s conduct on September 16. The next day, a supervisory inquiry was initiated to look into these allegations. The citizen involved was interviewed on two separate occasions and both times denied any inappropriate conduct with the officer.

The Desert Sun later received information on the officer’s conduct and when a reporter interviewed that same citizen, they provided them with information that conflicted with the original information she provided to DHSPD investigators. A Desert Sun article suggests the woman had a romantic relationship with the officer.

DHSPD Chief Dale Mondary met with a Desert Sun reporter yesterday to answer questions about this story. According to DHSPD, it was during this meeting that Mondary learned of the conflicting information. Department Command staff met later that afternoon and determined that in light of this new information, a formal Internal Affairs investigation was warranted.

News Channel 3 is holding off on naming the officer until the investigation has been completed.
