El Super set to open doors in former Kmart this week

Latino supermarket chain El Super is set to open on Clinton and Hwy 111 this Friday after the big box store was vacant for more than two years.

After delays and some uncertainty on what would fill the space, El Super is set to open its doors and revitalize the Town & Country Center shopping plaza.

Some store owners noticed a decline in profits after anchor store Kmart went dark in December 2016.

Nearby ice cream shop La Michocana Real is positioned next to the new grocery store. According to manager Nick Cordero, he’s already noticed an uptick in business and foot traffic.

“Now that El Super is opening we’re really excited to have a lot of revitalization to the plaza…all of the customers it’s going to bring us,” Cordero said. “I’ve already noticed people and potential customers,” he said.
