Timothe Chalamet to receive Palm Springs International Film Festival Spotlight Award

Timothee Chalamet will be presented with the Spotlight Award for his performance in Beautiful Boy at the 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Film Awards Gala.

Chalamet was awarded the Rising Star Award at the 29th film festival earlier this year for his critically acclaimed performance in Call Me By Your Name.

“Timothee Chalamet gives a heartwarming, but tragic performance as a young man struggling with drug addiction in the film Beautiful Boy,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “Last year Timothee was the recipient of the Festival’s Rising Star Award for his role in Call Me by Your Name. He is definitely a rising star. It is our honor to present the Spotlight Award, Actor to Timothee Chalamet.”

The festival will kick off on January 3rd with the Film Festival Gala, which will be held at the Palm Springs Convention Center and run through January 14.

Chalamet’s selection only adds to his already-growing accolades for his Beautiful Boy performance; he has earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture, Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and a SAG Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role,

“Beautiful Boy is a deeply moving portrait of a family’s unwavering love and commitment to each other in the face of their son’s addiction and his attempts at recovery. Based on two memoirs, one from acclaimed journalist David Sheff and one from his son, Nic Sheff.,” reads a PSIFF news release. “As Nic repeatedly relapses, the Sheffs are faced with the harsh reality that addiction is a disease that does not discriminate and can hit any family at any time. The film is directed by Felix van Groeningen and also stars Steve Carell, Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan.”

The festival is already shaping up to be an especially star-studded affair this year; already-announced honorees for the festival’s gala include Rami Malek (Breakthrough Performance Award), Glenn Close (Icon Award), Melissa McCarthy (Spotlight Award), and Bradley Cooper (Director of the Year Award).
