Police are investigating a shooting on Two Bunch Palms Trail and West Drive in Desert Hot Springs.

According to Doria Wilms, assistant to the city manager and public information officers for the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, at around 7:30 p.m., officers encountered a car that matched the description for a shooting earlier this week at an illegal gambling operation on Palm and Pearson where a man was killed.

A pursuit ensued, during the pursuit the suspect shot at officers. Bullets did not hit any officers or their patrol units. No officers were injured.

The pursuit continued until the suspect veered off into the desert. For an unknown reason, the vehicle caught on fire. SWAT units determined the suspect was not in the vehicle at the time of the fire.

There is no description on the suspect at this time. Police advise residents to who live in the area to stay inside their homes.

Roads are closed near Two Bunch Palms Elementary School.
