Indio Police help teens in need with shopping spree at Walmart

The Indio Police Department teamed up with Walmart to help teenagers in need “shop with a cop.”

Over a dozen teenagers spent time with Indio police officers and went on a shopping spree at the Walmart in Indio. This is the 8th year “shop with a cop” has been held.

Officers said many of the teens decided to buy gifts for family and friends instead of themselves.

“It was a very good experience and I liked it,” said Jose Fausto, a teen who shopped with a cop. “I got to buy presents for my parents, sisters, and nephews.”

Each teen was given $150 to shop.

Walmart donates half the money and the Indio police association puts up the other half through donations from its the community and organizations like the Indio Elks Lodge #1643, the Women’s Club of Indio, the Rotary Club of Indio, the Indio Police Officers Association, and the National Latino Police Officer’s Association Coachella Valley Chapter.
