Authorities identify Palm Springs quadruple homicide victims

The Riverside County Coroner’s office has officially identified the people killed in a quadruple homicide Sunday in Palm Springs.

Jacob Montgomery, 19, of Cathedral City, Juan Duarte-Raya, 18, of Cathedral City, and Yuliana Garcia, 17, of Thousand Palms were pronounced dead at the scene of a crash Sunday at around 11:40 p.m. near the intersection of Sunny Dunes Road and El Placer Road in Palm Springs. The Palm Springs Police Department later confirmed the three sustained gunshot wounds. PSPD say it remains unclear at this time if the gunshots caused the deaths.

At 12:15 a.m., PSPD received a call of a body in the road. Officers arrived on scene and found the body of a man, now identified as Carlos Campos Rivera, 25, of Desert Hot Springs. Police say Rivera suffered from an ‘apparent’ gunshot wound and died before officers arrived.

Today, 19-year-old Jose Larin-Garcia of Cathedral City was charged with four counts of murder in relation to all four deaths. Larin-Garcia was arrested Monday at 7:48 p.m. at the Indio Greyhound Station, according to PSPD.

Larin-Garcia pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held without bail, according to John Hall, public information officer for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. He also pled not guilty to a high capacity magazine charge.

Police have not released any information on what led to the shooting. Stay with News Channel 3 for updates.

Detectives urge that anyone in the area with street view surveillance footage from Sunday at 11:20 to Monday at 1:00 a.m to review the video. Anyone with information relating to the investigation should contact PSPD at 76-232-8136. To issue an anonymous tip, contact Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
