Man killed in Banning officer-involved shooting

A suspect was killed Thursday night in an officer-involved shooting in Banning.

At 10:46 p.m., Banning Police responded to a disturbance call in front of a residence on the 1500 block of North Blanchard Street in Banning. Officers attempted to detain a male suspect, and in the process, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

According to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department news release, the suspect was struck by a single officer’s gunfire. Medical aid was requested to the scene and the man was transported to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

No officers were injured during the incident. There are no outstanding suspects and no threats to public safety.

The suspect was identified by authorities as Nolan Hurtzig, 29, of Banning.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Central Homicide was requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting at 11:15 p.m., shortly after the shooting.
