Tramway riders encounter long wait times

Riders at the Mountain Station at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway are experiencing a wait of up to two hours, while in line to ride the tram back down the mountain, according to Tramway Communications Manager Greg Purdy.

Purdy also told News Channel 3 that a 30 minutes “brown out” impacted operations at the Mountain Station Sunday.

“We were just waiting for the tram to come pick us up and bring us down, and then the light went off. I think the tram went all the way halfway and then everybody got stuck,” said Maulid Ambara, a tram visitor.

As of 8:30 Sunday night, riders were being allowed to ride the tram up the mountain, but Purdy said tram officials are advising people going up the mountain that there is a “long wait to get back down”.

At one point Sunday, high winds near the Mountain Station prompted people outside the station to make their way back into the facility.
