Major valley events continue preparations, set up despite likely rain

With rain likely coming Wednesday night, people are getting a head start on set up on events across the Coachella Valley.

It’s a busy day for these vendors prepping for the date festival working quickly to avoid the potential of rain.

“It’s not good. You get drenched. Everything gets wet, everything,” Jesse Pacheco, a worker with No Limits Vinyl.

He knows all to well about working in the rain and is hoping dodge the showers. He’s not too worried about getting drenched though.

“As long as we get everything in here and once we’re inside we’re not going to get wet and we can work inside,” Pacheco said.

This cinnamon roll stand owner has the same idea and made sure his set up can stand the elements.

“We’re out here in Indio and but we like to call it ‘Windio’, so obviously make sure everything is high and tight and prepare for the wind or whatever. The heat, the rain, everything covered up,” Dane Baldwin, Owner/Operator of Country Fair Cinnamon Rolls, said.

This comes as rainy weather has shut down Villagefest in Palm Springs multiple times this season with organizers saying they’ve never had to cancel this many times before.

Despite the fact that the skies above the city look ominous with those gray clouds, organizers at Modernism Week say they have measures in place to make sure everyone stays dry.

“We’ve ordered some canopies so when people are checking in and not they’re standing in the rain, so we’re going to be good,” Chris Mobley, CEO of Modernism Week, said.

The hope is gloomy skies or not, people will continue to turn out.

“I’m ready…. I’m about ready to go. Come get it Indio,” Baldwin said while biting into a cinnamon roll.
