County teacher accused of sexual assault of minor

A Beaumont man accused of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14 years of age was arrested Tuesday.

Miguel Yvan Lazo, 60, a teacher at the El Monte Union High School District, was arrested at the school he worked at, the Beaumont Police Department announced.

According to BPD, an investigation into accusations against Lazo began sometime in 2018. Beaumont police officers were called to a local emergency room to investigate a report that a female juvenile had been sexually assaulted. Detectives were able to identify Lazo as the suspect.

The case was submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s office for review. A felony arrest warrant was issued and served Tuesday by the El Monte Police Department with assistance from BPD.

Beaumont police said Lazo’s arrest and the investigation does not involve any allegations related to his employment with the El Monte Union High School District.
