Procession held for fallen paramedic killed in crash

A procession was held for a paramedic who was killed in a crash earlier this week in Palm Springs.

34-year-old Eddie Lustro died Monday after another car reportedly struck his motorcycle while making an illegal U-Turn on Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs.

Eddie was a veteran of American Medical Response and had just come off a 12-hour shift before the accident. Thursday procession started around 12:15 p.m. and began on Jackson Street in Indio. CHP confirmed that they were assisting the American Medical Response procession onto Interstate 10 westbound.

The procession traveled from the Coroner’s office in Indio to Palm Desert, partially on Interstate 10. American Medical Response is in the process of planning a local memorial for Eddie, according to an AMR spokesperson.

“It’s very clear that he was well-loved,” said Doug Key, regional director, American Medical Response Riverside County.

Hours after Monday’s fatal accident, Lustro’s body was escorted by an emergency crew procession to Indio.

The American Medical Response is offering grief counselors and therapists for colleagues of Lustro. “They were a very close group…they knew Eddie very well it’s obviously a big hit for them,” Key said to Madison Weil on Tuesday.
