Fire breaks out in Mecca near site of recently-extinguished blaze

A vegetation fire has broken out in Mecca, just blocks from the Lincoln Fire, which was contained on Wednesday.

The blaze was reported at 1:50 p.m., according to CAL FIRE. It broke out near the intersection Lincoln Street and Avenue 70.

It was initially reported at 1-2 acres in an area of heavy brush, as of 4:15 p.m., the fire grew to 30 acres. Firefighters said at around 5 p.m. they had mostly knocked down the fire. Smoke will continue to be visible until around 7 p.m.

The Lincoln Fire broke out on March 15 at 2:09 p.m. and was contained on March 20 at 6:00 p.m. It broke out near the intersection of Lincoln Street and Avenue 68. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries due to the blaze and residents in the area had to be evacuated.
