S Indian Canyon near Sunny Dunes Rd reopened after major injury crash

The passenger in a car that struck a motorcycle in Palm Springs and fled the scene was injured when the car subsequently crashed into a fire hydrant, authorities said Saturday morning.

The car side-swiped a motorcycle at 8:10 p.m. Friday in a parking lot around South Palm Canyon Drive and Camino Parocela, Palm Springs police said.

The driver of the car crashed into a fire hydrant while leaving the scene, police said.

Mark Scott, 31, of Palm Springs was arrested on suspicion of DUI, hit and run and a parole violation, police said.

The motorcyclist and Scott were not hurt but a passenger in the car was taken to a hospital with major injuries, police said.

Officers say a passenger in the car suffered major injuries. The motorcyclist and the driver of the car were not injured.

South Palm Canyon Drive was closed between Camino Parocela and Sunny Dunes Road for the investigation but was later reopened, police said.
