Palm Springs woman battles rare type of cancer for more than 16 years
A long-time Palm Springs woman, Mary Harris, who has been battling cancer for more than 16 years has finally met her bone marrow match for a stem cell transplant.
Harris’s daughter, Brittney, was recently re-tested and doctors found she was a match. Harris says doctors asked her to relocate to Houston Texas for treatment. The Harris family hopped on a plane and are now living in Texas for the next three to four months.
” The relocation process, it was a little hard, but I never gave up, cause I knew it was going to happen. I’ve had a great support system, which is my kids, Jesus first, me and my kids. My daughter, Brittney, is a match for me, ” Harris told News Channel 3′ s Lauren Coronado.
Housing, transportation and medical supplies are all being paid for out-of-pocket, aside from Harris’ procedure, which is being paid for with insurance. The family is now raising money to help cover those expenses. If you’re interested in helping the Harris family you can donate on her GoFundMe page. A car wash and food sale is also planned for April 20.
