A sedan allegedly hit a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle head-on along Long Canyon Road north of Dillon Road in Desert Hot Springs Friday just before 11 p.m. leaving the motorcyclist with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP says the driver of the sedan fled the scene. Witnesses say the hit-and-run vehicle was possibly an early 2000 Dodge sedan with damage to the front and windshield.

The motorcyclist is a 48-year-old female from Desert Hot Springs. She was transported to the hospital with major injuries. She was wearing a fully enclosed motorcycle helmet at the time of the crash.

It is unknown if alcohol and drugs were a factor in this collision.

This crash is still under investigation.
