Dodge City In La Quinta Among Chrysler Closures
LA QUINTA – Chrysler says its needs to be “reduced and reconfigured” in order to be more competitive.
Chrysler filed a motion in U.S. bankruptcy court Thursday morning to eliminate 789 of its 3,200 dealerships across the country by June 9th.
The automaker sent ups notices to dealers.
Dodge City Chrysler-Jeep in La Quinta did not make the cut.
But last week, management told News Channel 3 sales for the year were down more than 50 percent.
There was good news in the high desert.
Chrysler Center of Yucca Valley will remain open.
“No one wants to see their sales go down, but we’re pretty fortunate up here. Our sales are down 20 percent, but a many are down 50 to 60 percent, so we hope we’re doing something right,” says co-owner Kelly Gaab.
Crystal Chrysler in Cathedral City is another dealership that appears to be safe.
Chrysler officials say the list of eliminated dealers is final and there will be no appeal process.
A hearing is scheduled for June 3rd when the court will rule on the motion, just six days before the planned closures.
