Construction Team Gets To Work On North Shore Project
NORTH SHORE – Construction jobs are difficult to find in these tough times. Many experienced professionals are making do any way they can.
“I have a lot of friends who have been in this valley 20, 30 years, and they’re painting, doing handyman jobs — whatever they can do to stay busy; just hoping the economy picks up and everybody gets back to work,” says Louis Vogler of NTA Construction.
The abandoned North Shore Yacht Club on the Salton Sea will be rebuilt into a community center with $3.5 million infederal stimulus dollars.
RDP/SCI Construction in Indio has the contract.
“It’s a great ‘before and after’ picture project. It’s run down. It’s probably a 40-year-old building. But when we get done with it, it will be a nice piece of the community. We’ll take pride in it,” says Matt Seto with RDP/SCI Construction.
RDP/SCI Construction is already working on College of the Desert’s new business classrooms.
It may be controversial to spend so much taxpayer money on this project before the Salton Sea itself is fixed. But, the project should employ more than a hundred workers for 8 months.
Vogler adds, “It’s brutal out there. It’s really hard to find a job. We are extremely happy. Our company went from a hundred people down to 25 steady people.”
