I-10 Repaving Backing Up Traffic, To Continue Through Aug.
PALM SPRINGS – Drivers continue to seedelays on Interstate 10 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews repave 20 miles of the interstate.Overnight crews shut down three of the four lanes creating a backup for miles.
Kerin Howard spent two hours in the traffic on Tuesday night.
“I think it’s wrong. There’s too many people trying to get home and everyone is going everywhere.”
Crews are only able to complete a few miles each night. The pavement is 10 years old and in good condition. The California Department of Transportation is hoping to rehabilitate the pavement rather than digging it all up and replacing it.
Jose Hernandez almost got stuck in the traffic on Wednesday night on his way to see family in Whitewater.Hernandez says it’s a good idea to do it at night so people aren’t stuck in the traffic during the day when it’s 112 degrees out.
CalTrans expects the work to be done August 13th.The project spans from Monterrey to Highway 111 on both directions of Interstate 10.
