Local Man’s Migraines Attributed To ‘Wind Turbine Syndrome’?

NEAR DESERT HOT SPRINGS – Dr. Nina Pierpont in New York lists a dozen possible health problems ranging from migraines to panic attacks. She calls it “wind turbine syndrome.”

It works like this: a dog can hear sounds people can’t. It’s beyond our frequency. So, spinning windmill blades allegedly cause a vibration we can’t hear. But Dr. Pierpont claims over a long period of time, it can cause damage to our inner ears.

Bud McPhail claims he started getting migraines just after he moved to a house very close to windmills near Desert Hot Springs.

“I turned to my left and got dizzy. I couldn’t find anything,” McPhail recalls.”It was a migraine. I never had that. Now, I’ve had several migraines since.”

His wife, Ritchie, adds, “Bud has had headaches that he’s never had in his life. If that is an issue that we can attribute to windmills, I really don’t know.”

Bud says he’s always been in good health. But he’s in his 70s and there’s no proof windmills caused his migraines.

Other people in the Painted Hills neighborhood near Highway 62 say the windmills haven’t caused them any problems.

“At first, I used to hear them more than I do now. Now, I guess I’m used to them, I don’t hear them as much, or I just black it out,” says Betty Beland.

Windmill energy companies haven’t reacted to this new study yet. But, they have repeatedly denied their windmills pose any health risks. Government studies back them up.

Dr. Pierpont’s study will be published later this year. She recommends creating a two-kilometer buffer zone between windmills and homes.
