Local Football Teams Scrub Away Financial Woes

By: Elyse Miller News Channel 3 Reporter emiller@kesq.com

The tough times are eliminating activities and sports for many kids here in the valley, but one organization is fighting back to keep the games going.

The tough times are taking from the Indio Junior All-American Football League, sponsored by the Boys And Girls Club.

“People only give so much and if they don’t have as much to give, they either limit the amount or don’t give at all,” says Tony Williams, Head Coach of the Indio Bulldogs.

More than 250 kids play for the Indio Bulldogs. They’re in need of uniforms, equipment, and referees.

“We need a good 10 to 15 thousand dollars to make sure everything is good,” says Williams.

On Saturday the Bulldogs held a car wash to raise money. It’s just one of many fundraisers they’ll do. Organizers hope to raise 500 dollars. Although that will only put a dent in the amount needed, they’re happy with anything they can get.

Kids and families across the valley rely on the Boys And Girls Clubs and it’s programs, like the Bulldogs.

Organizers say the activities keep kids on the right track by instilling self esteem and values.

“Being in a positive environment is good for kids,” says Williams.

Organizers hope a day of cleaning will wipe away the some of the financial struggles, so the kids can keep playing their favorite game.
