Riverside Electric Car Deal Signed; 100 New Jobs Expected
RIVERSIDE – A new car factory is coming to Riverside County. Factory owners say they’ll soon be hiring hundreds of people.
It’s called the “E-Zone.” People get inside two seater car, inspecting the latest import from South Korea. This battery powered all-electric car will soon be built at a factory in Moreno Valley.
South Korean CEO George Lee of CT&T Company signs the papers bringing his cars to Riverside County
“They do have a beautiful facility that they can start assembling our cars as early as possible,” says Lee.
The “E-Zone” commercials show it’s not too far from it’s golf-cart cousin. Its top speed: 35 miles an hour.
Brad Williams is CEO of MVP-EV. They are the Moreno Valley company tasked with building the “E-Zone.” He explains, “City streets will be their target market. It’s going to be great for governmental use, for code enforcement, security companies, resorts. It’s a very big opportunity.”
This car starts at $10,000. But if you want all the “bells and whistles”, such as air conditioning, which you’re going to need in the desert, it’s going to cost $17,000.
Perhaps the more important number are the amount of jobs added to a local economy hit hard in tough times.
“We have plans to produce 5,000 units initially. That will provide at lease 60 to 80 jobs. 10,000 units annually will be 120 to 150 jobs,” adds Williams.
That jobs number may rise to 800 once production of these cars gets going.
Pablo Carmona works for the manufacturing section of MVP-EV and says, “I need to learn how to put it together. I need to go to Korea to CT&T to learn how to put it together. We need to hire people to do a line set-up.”
MVP-EV in Moreno Valley currently builds RV’s. They will soon be accepting job applications for their electric car operations. They can be reached at their website, www.mvprv.com.
