Mother Drops Off Newborn Girl At Fire Station

CATHEDRAL CITY – On Wednesday just before 11a.m. a mother dropped off a newborn baby girl ata Cathedral City Fire Station. The station is part of a large statewide network of safe surrender sites.

The mother, under the 2000 Safe Haven Bill signed into law by former Governor Davis, allows mothers to drop off a newborn three days old or younger.

The law allows the mother to drop off thenewborn if she is unable or not willing to care for the baby. The only stipulation is there cannot be any signs of abuse. The mother can stay anonymous.
