Fire Crews Call Morning Blaze Suspicious

CATHEDRAL CITY – Firefighters mopped up hot spots Wednesday morning as they looked for the cause ofafire that gutted an unfinished home in Cathedral City.

The fire erupted shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday night on the 37000 block of Whispering Palms Trail.

All available city firefighters rushed to the scene, and Palm Springs firefighters provided coverage, the dispatcher said.

The fire, which caused around $90,000 in damage, started in a bathroomin the center of the home, which was only half constructed and was not hooked up to gas or electricity, Acosta said.

“It is suspicious in nature,” Acosta said.

About 10 firefighters contained the blaze within 15 minutes, but a nearby apartment complex was evacuated. The eaves of that complex were damaged, he said.

No injuries were reported.
