Cathedral City Police Officer Injured In Wreck

PALM SPRINGS -A Cathedral City police officer is recovering from a broken leg following a car wreck earlier Thursday evening.

It happened around 7:00 pm at Ramon and Crossley, many News Channel 3 viewers reported seeing the officer’s car wrecked. The front end of the car was caved in.

Despite the heavy damage to the police car, the officers inside did not suffer major injuries.

“The driver is with Cathedral City Police Department,” said Sgt. Phil Parker with Palm Springs Police. “He has a broken leg. He’s at the hospital right now. The passenger was a reserve officer with Cathedral City. He has an injury to his head. It’s minor.”

News Channel 3 talked with an eyewitness who described what she thought happened. Addie Bogart said, “They hit really hard. He was going quickly to catch up with an officer that was in front of me. I think he thought he was going to make the light, but he didn’t make it.”

The crash involving Cathedral City Police officers happened just inside the Palm Springs city limits and is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

Police describe the people in the Hyundai as young women who suffered only cuts and bruises.

“I hate to say, but I honestly think it was the officer’s fault,” said Bogart.

The identities of the officer and reserve officer involved in the accident have not been released.
