City Of Palm Springs Urges Everyone To Help Fire Victims

PALM SPRINGS – In a rare move, today, the City of Palm Springs came out and urged everyone to help the victims of the New Year’s Day fire that claimed the lives of two adults and three children.

“When a tragedy like this occurs, it’s important we all come together as a community and do whatever we can to help,” said Mayor Steve Pougnet. “I encourage everyone to reach into their pockets and help this young girl put her family to rest.”

The mobile home fire erupted early Friday morning in the Windy Point area of Palm Springs.Ciria Silva, a 13-year-old is the sole survivor of her family, losing her mother, brother, and sisters in the fire.

Donations can be made to Raymond Cree Middle School in Palm Springs.

About 3,500 Americans die every year in fires, according to Palm Springs Fire Chief Blake Goetz, who noted that manufactured homes in particular can burn quickly and fatal fires can be prevented by following these simple steps:
