Showers Didn’t Rain On The Parade
PALM SPRINGS – Some people wore flip flops, others wore boots. Some had jacket around their waste, others were all bundled up. Saturday’s mixed storm, sent mixed signals.
“I can’t believe the weather, it’s the desert for god’s sake, it’s not supposed to rain,” says Gale Norman as she watches the Black History Month Parade march through Palm Springs.
The on and off clouds threatened to rain on the Black History Month Parade, but the show marched right on through and around the wet weather and puddles. For one group in a convertible, puddles weren’t the problem, they were looking to the sky.
“We were worried, we thought we’d get heavier showers,” says Robert Smith, marching with Palm Springs High School.
Just down the street, at McCormick’s Car Auction and car show, the rain kind of defeated the purpose for some owners, they had to cover up their convertibles.
“I was hoping to show it off, but I have to keep it safe from the weather,” says car owner, Jeff Erserlius.
Inside the auction tent, the rain actually boosted sales.
“It ended up helping,” says Keith McCormick, owner of McCormick’s Exotic Car Auction in Palm Springs. “It was quiet outside, but inside the tent it was jumping. It was packed from 10 am.”
When the rain blew in, the crowds found dry land inside the tent; and if you’re there, why not buy a car?
“We bought a car,” says Eric Rose. “We got an old Bronco.”
“The rain was unreal, it packed the tent,” says McCormick. “We sold the firsteighteen of twenty-five cars in the rain.”
Despite the gloomy weather, both events in Palm Springs were a clear hit.
“It rocked and rolled,” says McCormick.
