Southern California Rescue Teams Head To Chile
LOS ANGELES -Los Angeles County is sending its elite urban search-and-rescue team to earthquake-stricken Chile.
Authorities on Monday said the 74-member group includes doctors, rescue dogs, structural engineers and specialists of all kinds.
They will take 55,000 pounds of food and equipment with them.
County fire Inspector Matt Levesquesays California Task Force 2 is waiting for transportation to be worked out but members will be ready to depart sometime Monday.
An 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile before dawn Saturday, killing more than 700 people. Crews are still sifting through the rubble for survivors.
The task force has responded to many domestic and international disasters, including spending two weeks in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
