Steve Poizner Officially Files For Governor’s Race; Brown To File Tuesday
SANTA CLARA -Steve Poizner became the latest candidate to file for the state’s governor’s race, today.
According to his campaign,he and his family weregreeted by a crowd of supporters as he walked into the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters to complete the paperwork and declare his candidacy.
“I want to deploy a series of smart, common sense, conservative solutions that will get this great state back on track,” saidPoizner, who is currently the Insurance Commissioner. “My campaign is about cutting taxes across-the-board to bring jobs back to California.”
His primary competitor is Meg Whitman, who once ran E-Bay. They face a primary battle in June.
Attorney General Jerry Brown will announce Tuesday he plans to run for governor of California, his campaign spokesman says.
The 71-year-old Brown, a Democrat, previously served as California’s governor from 1975-83. He has also been California’s secretary of state and mayor of Oakland.
Brown spokesman Sterling Clifford said the attorney general will confirm his gubernatorial candidacy via the Internet Tuesday in Southern California.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom had been a candidate for the Democratic ticket but withdrew last fall.
