Local Runners Learn From Missing Teen Case

PALMSPRINGS -With the disappearance of 17-year-old Chelsea King after being out for a run, “being aware”is a very serious reminder.

It’s the first thing the Palm Springs girls cross country runners learn: not how to run fast, instead how to stay safe.

They are also told not to listen to an iPod. The music is a distraction from would be predators.

During the season, the girls run together with their coach Steve Clark. He’s been coaching cross country for 15 years at Palm Springs High School.

It’s on the weekends when these runners don’t have the protection of their coach.

Whilethey have never had a close call, it is on their minds.
