Banning School District Cuts 55 Jobs To Balance Budget
BANNING- Fifty-five employees will soon be out of a job.
On Wednesday night during a special session, the Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the layoffs. The District is looking to trim $1.3 million dollars in order to have a balanced budget.
Joseph vela, a Special Ed. Support Staff Member says, “I hope money comes up and they can reinstate these people.”
Members of the Board explained, “The only reason were in this situation is because the state of California has taken so much away from education and from this once great state of ours”, says Amy Herr.
The employees affected are attendance , bi-lingual education and support staffmembers. The District by lawsis required to notify teachers 45 daysbefore theythe layoff.
Beth Caskie with the California SchoolEmployees Association says, “Our concern is the April 18th layoff date, it is three months earlier than expected there is no reason tolet them go that soon.”
