CHP Helps Stop Run-Away Prius

PALM DESERT – Run-away acceleration continues to plague Toyota.The automaker and federal officials are investigating why a Prius ran out of control on a San Diego Freeway.

Jim Sikes says he was driving his 2008 Prius on Interstate 8 on Monday when the car accelerated on its own.

He called 9-1-1 and a C-H-P officer instructed him to apply the emergency brake along with the pedal brake.

While the California Highway Patrol doesn’t have a set way to stop an out of control vehicle,C-H-P officer Ramon Perez officers say their hours of training kicks in gear.

“I mean at the end of the day we’re in the business of trying to save lives and in this particular situation Ithink the officer made the best choice he could considering the circumstances, seeing the results that everyone walked away safe.”

Sikes says he received a recall letter from Toyota, but anEl Cajon dealership told him his Prius wasn’t on the recall list.
