Man Barricaded Inside Indio Home

UPDATE: A safe end for a nearly 6 hour stand off. Police took 36 year old Christopher David Kendll into custody for locking himself inside his home and threatening to hurt himself and anyone who tried to enter his home.

Indio Police Department Spokesman Ben Guitron confirms SWAT teams entered the home around 5:30 p.m. They used a flash-bang device to disorient Kendll and enter the home.

Officers found 2 guns inside his home. Guitron says teams will search the home to look for any possible explosives.

Family members told police that the man previously served in the military and might have access to some explosives.

Police had been unable to directly make contact with the man to confirm those reports, Guitron said.

Officers cleared nearby homes as a precaution and called for additional resources from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, according to Guitron, who said the sheriff’s bomb unit was on standby.

Neighbors were allowed back into their homes a few hours after the arrest.
