Palm Springs Unified Approves 36 Layoffs

Teachers in the Palm Springs Unified School District are preparing for pink slips.

The board unanimously approved sending final layoff notices to 36 teachers at a meeting Tuesday night.

If any teachers leave or take early retirement, some of the notices could be rescinded.

Last week, Desert Sands Unified approved layoff notices for 150 people, and on Thursday Coachella Valley Unified will vote on cutting 47 teacher positions.

By law districts have to send out layoff notices by May 15th.

The 3 districts have sent out hundreds of pink slips throughout the last couple years, but were able to rescind most of them before the start of classes.
