Robert Duvall To Receive Award At Palm Springs Film Festival
Academy Award winner Robert Duvall will receive the Career Achievement Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January, organizers announced today.
“For nearly 50 years, Robert Duvall has transfixed cinematic audiences with his gritty, intuitive performances, ” said Harold Matzner, the festival’s chairman.
The award will be presented to Duvall at the festival’s Jan. 8 gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
Matzner applauded Duvall’s portrayal in “Get Low” as a Tennessee backwoodsman, who stages his own funeral while still alive.
“Duvall gives a virtuoso performance, challenging audiences to understand his character who is caught between myth and reality,” he said.
The actor, who won an Academy Award for best actor for his role in “Tender Mercies,” has earned numerous Oscar nominations for his performances in “The Godfather,” Apocalypse Now,” “The Great Santini” and “The Apostle.”
Past recipients of the Career Achievement Award include Cate Blanchett, Kevin Costner, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren.
