High profile speakers, a fast-paced auction, and videos showing stories of women who've received support while experiencing crisis pregnancies were all a part of the in-person luncheon Saturday in Indian Wells.

"These changed lives, the ripple effect they will create in their own families, their friends and their communities.  It's not only rippling across but it's also going generationally and it's priceless," said Jan Lupia. a Mama's House co-fonder and Executive Director.

Since opening eight year's ago, they've provided a place to stay along with counseling, education, and other support services.

They've done it all without charge for nearly 300 women experiencing crisis pregnancies.

"The number one problem in America is the growing number of children who are raised without fathers," said Larry Elder, an author and talk show host who was one of the featured speakers.

The other speaker, former NFL star and Heisman Trophy Winner Herschel Walker shared poignant moments from his childhood.

"As a kid growing up, I didn't love myself. I didn't like the way I sounded. I didn't like the way I looked. For years in my life I didn't speak in a classroom. People didn't think I could talk," said Walker.

A representative for Mama's House said they raised about $400,000 at the luncheon.

They're also working with the city of Palm Desert to receive a permit to open a second home in the city.

The fundraiser was live streamed by KESQ News Channel 3.
