Roads Back Open Near Ramon and Da Vall Intersection After Deadly Crash

A bicyclist died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a car near a Rancho Mirage intersection.

It happened near Ramon Road and Da Vall Road around 12:15 p.m, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of a white mini-van ran a red light while traveling northbound on Da Vall, according to the Sherriff’s Department.

A black pick-up truck traveling westbound on Ramon Road struck the white van, causing it to roll over and striking the bicyclist. The overturning white van also hit a third vehicle, a black Nissan, stopped at the intersection.

The bicyclist, who was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries, happened to be stopped at the northwest corner of the intersection when the accident happened. The bicyclist’s identity is not known.

The driver of the white van was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries and is expected survive. The driver of the Nissan did not suffer any injuries.

Less than 2 hours after the crash, sheriff’s deputies arrested the driver of the black truck, 60-year-old Larry Goodman, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

However, sheriff’s deputy Angel Ramos said the Cathedral City man was not suspected of causing the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

Cathedral City Police announced the intersection, and some roads surrounding it, would remain closed for at least 5 or 6 hours after the accident. Roads were reopened around 6 p.m.
