21 samples test positive for West Nile Virus in Coachella Valley

Two more mosquito samples have come back testing positive for West Nile Virus, according to the Center for Vectorborne Diseases at the University of California-Davis.

The samples were collected by mosquito researchers on June 19 from mosquito traps near Mecca.

The two positive results bring the total number of West Nile positives in mosquitoes to 21, according to the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District.

Workers said their plan to intensify their watch and collection of samples and educate residents who live in those areas on how to prevent getting the illness.
