Diners turned heroes after restaurant stabbing
Several patrons of an Applebee’s restaurant were being lauded as heroes today by Hemet police for chasing down a parolee suspected of stabbing the manager during an attempted robbery, a sergeant said.
After hearing the commotion Wednesday night at the eatery on West
Florida Avenue, the patrons saw Raymond Marquez bolt from the location, chased after him and held him until officers arrived, said Hemet police Sgt. Dan
Reinbolt.
Marquez, 51, who was on parole for robbery, attempted murder and a host
of other crimes, had ordered a meal at the restaurant before he allegedly tried
to rob the manager at knifepoint about 10 p.m., Reinbolt said.
The manager, whose name was not released, suffered stab wounds while
grappling with the suspect and was listed in stable condition at an area
hospital, the sergeant said.
Marquez was being held without bail, Reinbolt said.
