Authorities identify hiker killed in Joshua Tree National Park
Authorities identified a hiker who die in Joshua Tree National Park Thursday as a Southern California resident Mojica Antonio Coronel, 42, of Culver City.
On Friday morning, the Riverside County Coronors office said Coronel collapsed and fell into a crevasse while climbing over boulders.
The agency said his cause of death was still under investigation.
Joshua Tree National Park Search and Rescue responded to an initial report of a visitor injury at 2:50 Thursday afternoon in a popular climbing area located between the Jumbo Rock and Ryan campgrounds area referred to as the Hall of Horrors.
Search and rescue personnel located Coronel on a ledge 50 feet above the ground, but he did not respond to rescuer’s attempts to revive him.
