Armed Men Rob Ed’s Coins On El Paseo

Sheriff’s deputies are searching for two men who robbed Ed’s Coins on El Paseo Wednesday afternoon.

The store located on the 72-600 block of El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert, was robbed just after 2 P.M. says Deputy Tom Brewster, of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

“It’s probably an easy target. A nice quiet place to get in and get out fast,” said Vince Saltarelli, a nearby businessowner of Creative Office Interiors.

According to Brewster, an employee of Ed’s Coins was robbed at gunpoint by two men. The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and cash. They were last seen driving a red Nissan Sentra in an unknown direction.

Saltarelli says not only does the quiet area make the shopping center an easy target, but the inventory at Ed’s Coins is a cash crop for theives.

“They have gold and silver, something they can cash pretty fast,” he said.

The Sheriff’s Department says the suspects are described as:

1st suspect: Black male, 5’10, wearing all dark clothing, sunglasses, and was armed.

2nd suspect: Black male, 5’4, with thick build, wearing a dark t-shirt, red and white shorts, and sunglasses. And was also armed.

Deputies say that only the clerk was in the store at the time of the robbery, and he was not hurt. However, someneighboring business owners are on edge.

“It’s not a good feeling having it so close by,” said Saltarelli.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video at this time.

Police agencies across the valley are helping to search for the armed suspects. If you saw anything please call police or 9-1-1.

“We don’t like to see this kind of thing happen. Hopefully they get caught,” said Saltarelli.
