Indio teen injured in Cathedral City Shooting

Cathedral City police were investigating a shooting that left one man injured late Tuesday night.

Jose Avila, 18, of Indio was shot in his lower body near the intersection of Date Palm drive and Dinah Shore around 10:30 p.m.

Officers found Avila lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

Police say three men approached and confronted Avila, who had been walking with a female friend.

One suspect pulled out a handgun and shot Avila once as he and the female tried to run away.

Investigators say the suspect escaped in a red ford f-150 truck.

The suspect was described as only hispanic, 20 to 25 years, with a medium complexion. No clothing description was available.

No motive for the shooting has yet been determined.
