Barnes and Noble Stores Hacked
Barnes and Noble is warning customers who used their credit and debit card at the Palm Desert location to check for unauthorized transactions and change their pin number.
The store on Highway 111 is one of over 63 locations hacked, in nine states. The store says hackers broke into the keypads in front of cash registers where customers swipe their cards.
The company discovered the security breach back in September and immediately disconnected all pin pads from 700 stores nationwide.
The stores hacked are in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
Federal authorities are helping with the investigation.
