Government program hopes to get homeless veterans off streets

$60 million will be allocated across the country with $16 million coming to California to help veterans find homes.

Approximately 1,775 veterans live on the streets and in shelters in California and have no place to call home. The U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program wants to change that.

Riverside County will get 75 vouchers worth over $575,000 while San Bernadino County will receive 55 vouchers and more $371,000 in government funding.

Since 2008, more than 42,000 formerly homeless veterans are currently in homes because of the HUD-VASH program.
